Take a Peek Into My Home Office

June 2, 2015

I’m excited to be linking up again this month with two of my favorite bloggers, Angie from Lucky Little Learners and Ashley from Schroeder’s Shenanigans in 2nd for this month’s 2gether We are Better Linky! This month we are sharing our home office spaces.  After I left the classroom last year to stay home with my daughter I decided to start taking blogging and creating a bit more seriously as a way to help ease the struggle of becoming a single income family.  I packed up all my teaching stuff and brought it home, where it sat in our spare bedroom for about a year… I just couldn’t decide how to get everything organized into a space I would actually want to work in.
Fast forward to this March, and my fabulous husband suggested that I take over our downstairs office which previously housed all of our miscellaneous home files and such as well as his books, keepsakes, etc. I was really excited to get decorating and organizing and I am really happy that it is finally finished and a calm space that I love to work in while miss Madelynn naps every afternoon. So enough chit chat, let me take you on a little tour!
I’m really thankful to have a large space to call my own and love the glass doors because they motivate me to keep it clean and organized. No shutting the door and forgetting about the mess around here!

Here is my desk space.  I love that it has a lot of storage space and a large work area that helps me keep everything I need handy. Behind my desk is my dry erase calendar that I update monthly mostly with family things to do that I forget about when I just schedule them in my phone calendar. I keep reminders and notes here too (like my 100 miles to Vegas page!) on the magnet board and cork board.

Here’s a closer look at my work space. This is where most of the magic happens.  I feel the most focused and productive when I work on creating here. Although in the interest of not completely ignoring my understanding husband, I do spend a lot of time creating and blogging while snuggling up on the couch next to him. Check out that adorable weekly planner pad from Krista at Creative Clips! It came in the mail just in time for these photos and I am pretty pumped to start adding my daily to do’s to the pages each week. I have a million different calendars for my blog, my TPT store, my collaborative blog, family and more…so I can’t wait to start breaking things down daily into what I want to accomplish.

Here is a close up of the right side of my desk that houses my hoards of supplies.  I love that I had the space to organize everything into baskets and bins so I don’t have to go hunting for anything I need while I’m working.  In the corner I keep my business binder and clip art binder so they are easy to grab when I need them. These get used on a daily basis and really help to keep me on track and focused.

Of course everything has to have a cute label right?

Remember how I said I packed up ALL of my teaching stuff? Well apparently I hoard art materials… Along with all of the scrapbooks stuff I already had at home, I filled a whole closet with paper, crayons, pipe cleaners, play dough, googly eyes, buttons, and anything else you can think of.  I have a feeling I’m going to find Madelynn in here a lot very soon ๐Ÿ™‚

Next up is the one shelf that I need to really go through.  This shelf holds a mixture of professional and personal books that I have as well as photos and scrapbooks. I really want to take a look at all of the books I have and see what I can get rid of and what I know I will want to read and reference in the future.

I’m so happy that I have a large window in my office as well.  Being able to see outside puts a smile on my face.  I just had to have a cute little chair in to corner too in case anyone decides to pop in… If Madelynn is napping Lee will sometimes hang out in here and chat with me for a bit.

I love this little frame/chalkboard I found at Hobby Lobby.  Madelynn’s sweet little pictures always put me in a good mood so she had to have a spot in my office.

I might need a binder intervention…I kind of didn’t realize how many binders I had until I brought them home.  When they are scattered on shelves in your classroom its easy to forget how many teaching resources you have acquired.

I love the new labels I created to organize them, but it is time to go through what is inside each binder and do some purging for sure!

And of course my office wouldn’t be complete without a printer and laminator or as I like to call them a teachers best friend ๐Ÿ™‚  I also just love quotes.  I found these adorable signs at Hobby Lobby as and love that they inspire me right away when I set foot in my office.

And one more sweet quote that is a daily reminder.

Thanks for checking out my space, I hope you love it as much as I do.

Love your french doors looking in! My one day add on to my office will have french doors leading to an upstairs patio area! "Honey do list!"

Wow! Your office is beautiful Jessica! I love that you have inspirational quotes when you first come in the door. This might sound really simple but your picture of your kindergarten art stuff now being in a closet for your daughter to be able to use is smart! A lot of my art supplies are boxed up and in storage so I think that is going to be added to my mile long summer to do list so that Molly can tap into them! Thanks for linking up with us!

What a beautiful office! I especially love your inspirational quotes and gorgeous window!
Like you, I brought home my hoards of supplies, books and binders when I left the classroom. The first thing anybody says when they see my office is, "You're such a teacher!"
I loved this glimpse into your beautiful workspace – thank you for sharing! :o)

I am super impressed with your closet full of supplies! Mine tend to just hang around, get lost, then I forget I already have them, so I buy them again. Trust me, your system is way better! Adorable labels are a must!
